Colonial School District | Student Study and Travel
As a foreign language teacher at Plymouth-Whitemarsh Senior High School, I had the opportunity to offer my language students and other non-language students two types of travel to Europe. As a German teacher, I could offer study and travel to Salzburg, Austria with Cultural Studies Academy (CSA) located in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, which is the same program I participated in during the 1970's. In 1980 one of my students, Lisa Doyle, studied and traveled with CSA in Salzburg, Austria.
As a German teacher, I could also offer a travel program to the Germanspeaking countries for ten days during the Easter holiday, so that my German students could speak the German language and could experience German culture up close and personal. For other non-language students, I hoped that by traveling to the German-speaking countries, they could experience why they should learn the German language in the future.
The travel program was with Cultural Heritage Alliance Tours (CHA), which is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During my teaching career at Plymouth-Whitemarsh Senior High School, many of my German students and other non-language students traveled to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for 10 days. This travel program was very successful during my teaching career.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a German writer (1749-1832), once said, "you never know your own language (and culture), until you experience another."
